What is God Like?
(When life seems out of control?)
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
Sometimes life seems like its spiraling out of control.
Earthquakes.
Hurricanes.
Mass Shootings.
Fires.
But an “out of control life” doesn’t have to be limited to our global community. In fact, sometimes it’s our very lives. Try a few of these on for size:
Are you in-between jobs right now?
What kind of sinful habits or struggles presently engulf you?
Is there a personal relationship that needs healing?
Have you or do you know someone that has received unfortunate medical news?
Do you feel lonely? Are you feeling socially rejected? You don’t fit in?
You want to be intimate with God, but feel distant?
Have you been praying for a “significant other” relationship that hasn’t materialized?
Perhaps you have lost a loved one recently or still experiencing a deep sense of grief?
So, what should we do? We need to (eventually) have a conversation with God in light of our “ups and downs.” But “What is God like when life is out of control?” Let me suggest three answers:
•God is sovereign: He has a purpose and He is in control
•God is infinitely wise: He provides guidance and a way forward
•God is good: He’s generous and kind
What is God doing anyways? Is He in control? Can God provide a way forward out of our mess? Is He really a good Father? We encourage the Pathway community to join us for three weeks (11/5-11/19) to learn and experience more about “What is God Like?” (When Life Seems out of Control)
